Iām a documentary photographer, a lover of rhythm, and the founder of The Nica Sessions.
My visual storytelling explores the dance between culture, belonging, and the quiet power of resistance. I work with communities from across Cuba to the UK and Brazil to Australia to centre people in the mise-en-scene of their everyday lives where unspoken values, passions and secrets vie for representation. My most recent project is Los Que Quedan/Those Who Remain, in collaboration with anthropologist Katrin Hansing.
Inspired by the bold spirit of Nica de Koenigswarter, aka The Jazz Baroness, I started The Nica Sessions with my husband, jazz musician Yunior Terry, to create warm and inviting spaces for friends and lovers to come together to be inspired by live music.
A finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize, the Lucie/APA Scholarship, the Lucie Emerging Scholarship, the 7th Julia Margaret Cameron Awards and a semi-finalist in the Head On Portrait Prize (Australia), I also co-hosted Too Much Posse on 3RRRFM radio (Melbourne) and co-created Holy Roller Productions website with music producer IG Culture (London) featuring my short music documentaries, essays and DJ mixes. My cross-cultural dance music video collaboration with Yassmin Foster (London) and cultural group AfroReggae (Brazil) premiered in a live performance at the Royal Festival Hall, London.
My journey has taken me through a MA at the London College of Communication, and I currently live by the beach in Melbourne with my husband and our five-year-old twins.
